Logos use association a lot .Logos may start with the name of a company but as soon as they are known they can be just a symbol that is associated with the brand like the Nike swish

It can be used to create unity it can also be used to create contrast. It can also be a tool to create eye flow. Using colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel will produce a high contrast effect while using colors close to each other will create a more harmonious result. Warm colors will stand out against cool colors and demand more attention.
